Overview
This policy explains how Neon Trail (“Neon Trail,” “we,” or “us”) handles information when you visit our website, buy a license, activate the Mac app, or contact support.
Information we collect
Purchases and licenses
When you buy Neon Trail, we receive your email address, order identifier, purchased plan, license status, and related transaction metadata from Lemon Squeezy. Lemon Squeezy processes your payment details as the merchant of record; we do not receive or store your full payment-card number.
App activation
To activate and validate a license, the app sends your license key and a one-way SHA-256 hash derived from your Mac’s platform identifier. We store that hash with activation and last-validation timestamps to enforce the device limit. The original platform identifier is not sent to us.
Website, API, and support
Our hosting and security systems may process standard request information such as IP address, request time, requested page or endpoint, and browser or device information. IP addresses are also used in API rate-limit records to prevent abuse. If you contact support, we receive the information included in your email.
We use cookie-free website analytics to understand visits and product interest. Analytics records can include the time and page, sections viewed, button clicks, active-time milestones, country, broad device and browser type, local time zone, and referring site or campaign tags when available. A random browser-session ID helps count visits and may be passed through checkout to connect an order to the visit. We do not store your IP address in analytics records. Hosting and abuse-prevention systems may still process IP addresses as described above.
Gestures on your Mac
Letter gestures work entirely on your Mac. To recognize a letter, Neon Trail checks whether your chosen gesture key is held and follows your cursor while it is. Neon Trail never reads or records what you type.
The strokes you draw, the letters recognized, and any handwriting samples you teach the app are processed and stored on your Mac only. They are never sent to us or anyone else, and you can reset a letter's handwriting in the app at any time.
A few actions, such as pressing keys or taking a screenshot, send a keystroke on your behalf. They use the macOS Accessibility permission, which you grant in System Settings and can revoke at any time.
How we use information
- Complete purchases and deliver license keys.
- Activate, validate, and deactivate licensed Macs.
- Prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized license use.
- Provide support and troubleshoot bugs.
- Understand website traffic and which features or purchase options visitors use.
- Meet legal, accounting, and security obligations.
Service providers
We use service providers only where needed to operate Neon Trail:
- Lemon Squeezy for checkout, payment processing, tax, refunds, and order data.
- Vercel for website and API hosting.
- Neon for database hosting.
- Resend for transactional license emails.
- Google Fonts for the website’s hosted font files.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of a business transfer. We do not sell personal information.
Retention and security
We retain purchase and license records while needed to provide the license, keep transaction records, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations. Activation records remain until a device is deactivated or the associated license record is removed. Security, rate-limit, and support records are retained only as long as reasonably needed for their purpose.
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or a copy of your personal information. You may also object to certain processing. Email us to make a request. We may need to verify your identity and may retain information where required by law.
International processing and children
Our providers may process information in countries other than your own. Their safeguards and privacy terms apply to that processing. Neon Trail is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the product or legal requirements change. The effective date above identifies the latest version.
